175 Ivan Pul'uj years

2 February marks 175 anniversary of the birth of the famous physicist John Pul'uj (1845–1918). John Puliui was behind one of the greatest achievements of mankind - discovery of X-rays.

Born in Ternopil, Austro-Hungarian citizen John Puliui prysluzhyvsya Ukrainian culture. Do 1869 he joined the Bible translation in Ukrainian, who has with Ukrainian historian, writer Panteleimon Kulish. Translators were convinced: people, having the Bible in their native language, can be destroyed; language, which translated Bible, - immortal. As a result of their cooperation, in 1871 in Vienna were published successively four canonical Gospels. 1885 in a fire at a farm near Motronivka Borzny in Chernihiv burned the manuscript of the Old Testament translated Panteleimon Kulish. But Kulish did not have time to recover translation.

Continued translation and publication of the Bible took the Ukrainian writer Ivan Nechuy-Levitsky and Ivan Puliui. In 1903 in Vienna was published the first complete translation of the Bible into Ukrainian, received informal name "Bible Kulish".

В Чернігівському історичному музеї імені В.В. Tarnowska kept John Pul'uj materials - photographs and epistolary heritage. Letters of John Pul'uj Alexandra Kulish (Ukrainian writer Anna Periwinkle) dating back 1898-1905 years. After the death of John Panteleimon Kulish Puliui financially supported the widow of the writer, tips helped in the publication of works of deceased.

John Puliui a German married to Catherine Stozitskoyu raised three sons and three daughters. It is interesting, that his mother spoke German children, and father - Ukrainian. John Puliui brought them a love for Ukraine. Even during summer trips he hired children huvernantiv, who knew the Ukrainian language.

The precious relic, stored in the museum, is a silver laurel wreath with the inscription: 'Memory is not forgotten other Kulish. Puliui 1899 ". John Puliui sent it to the grave of Alexander Kulish Kulish before the new 1900 in memory of the 3rd anniversary of his death.
