The Bible of Panteleimon Kulish

26 October 2023 in Chernihiv Historical Museum named VV. Tarnovsky, a museum meeting was held for the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the first complete edition of the Bible in Ukrainian by Panteleimon Kulish.

Senior researcher Svitlana Polovnikova introduced the audience to the legacy of the outstanding Ukrainian writer P. Kulisha. The main topic of the message was the relationship between the classics of Ukrainian literature and the founder of the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities, Vasyl Tarnovsky, Jr., and the first director, Andrii Shelukhin. Thanks to their efforts, the museum has a large collection of P. Kulisha, which counts over 190 музейних предметів.

Nataliya Kotsyubynska - deputy director for scientific work of the Chernihiv Literary Memorial Museum-Reserve of M.M.. Kotsyubinsky dedicated her speech to the anniversary of the release of the Bible in the Ukrainian language and to the long-term work of P.. Kulisha over its translation. The writer believed, that every people should read the Holy Scriptures in their native language. His opinion was completely shared by Oleksandr Mykhailivna's wife (Ганна Барвінок), who, after her husband's death, encouraged Vasyl Tarnovsky to publish the Holy Scriptures, physicist Ivan Pulyuy and writer Ivan Nechui-Levytskyi. The Kulish Bible was printed by the British Bible Society in London in 1903-1904.
