Master blacksmith Maria Kobets

12 November 2024 year, on the eve of Blacksmith's Day, in the Chernihiv regional historical museum named after. V. V. Tarnovsky, a museum meeting was held with the talented blacksmith and charming girl Maria Kobets.

For two years already, she has been mastering and developing the traditions of Ukrainian blacksmithing. She is actively engaged in volunteer work and supports her husband.

The craftswoman was forced to become a blacksmith due to the events of the Russian-Ukrainian war. By February 2022 her husband Andriy was professionally engaged in blacksmithing, who joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to protect the country. Hence, the forge became a family affair of the Kobtsi family. Maria Kobets herself is a professional historian, graduate of the Institute of History, етнології та правознавства імені О.М.Лазаревського Національного університету «Чернігівський колегіум» імені Т.Г.Шевченка, worked for a long time in the Chernihiv regional historical museum named after. VV. Tarnovsky.

Maria began her blacksmithing journey by copying products, which her husband did. Today she makes those products, that physically, as a woman, can do. These are forged skewers, прикраси для волосся, napkin rings, grill sets, elements of garden decor, axes with laser engraving.

We wish Ms. Maria and her family success on the way to the revival of blacksmithing traditions of Chernihiv Oblast and Ukraine.
