Exhibition for the 130th anniversary of the Museum

30 April in the Chernihiv regional historical museum named after. VV. Tarnovsky's permanent exhibition "Under the protection of Mnemosyne" opened, dedicated to the history of the museum. The name of the Greek goddess of memory in its title emphasizes the importance of the museum as a public institution, whose task is to preserve national memory, detection, study, preservation and popularization of the historical and cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people as an integral part of the world cultural heritage.

The exhibition consists of two parts. The first is photo-documentary information tablets placed on the wall, світлини, posters, плакати, introducing the history of the Museum's origin and development. Here we learn about the creation of five museums in Chernihiv. The first of them was officially opened 14 (26) November 1896 Dr.. - Historical museum of the scientific archival commission. Behind him, in April 1902 - Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities named after. VV. Tarnovsky. Do 1906 year - the Diocesan Repository of Antiquities, in 1919 - Museum of Manly Life and Arts, in 1920 year - Ethnographic Museum. In the mid-1920s, the museums merged into one institution - the Chernihiv State Museum, which today has its current name.

The second section of the exhibition is made up of original museum objects placed in showcases and on podiums, which represent separate thematic and systematic collections of once separate museums, which are already over 100 years are replenished as groups of a single museum collection. Here you can see the sights of archeology, Numismatics, Phaleristics, philately, artifacts from the history of the city of Chernihiv, household and religious items, works of decorative art, Shevchenkian, weapons.

Responding to the challenges of time and war, unleashed against Ukraine by an aggressive neighbor, The museum studies and preserves its own history and the history of Ukraine, and museum objects testify not only to the indomitability and strength of spirit of the Ukrainian people - they, simultaneously, are also evidence of crimes against humanity, при тому, not only about Ukrainians. Among 133 exhibits of the exhibition - and a body token of Denis Cherednichenko, a native of Chernihiv (1985–2014), a participant in the Revolution of Dignity and the Russian-Ukrainian war; and a commemorative plaque from the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities V.V. Tarnovsky, destroyed by a Russian bomb in 2022 year, and a commemorative medal about that, as “The victorious Russian army defeated and pacified the rebellion in Hungary and Transylvania in 1849 year", stopping the European Spring of Nations.
