21 December 2022 In 2015, the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after V. V. Tarnovsky held a museum meeting on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the birthday of the director of the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities. Tarnovskyi - Vadym Lvovich Modzalevskyi (1882–1920), who headed the institution in 1911–1912.

While serving as director of the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities, V. Tarnovsky was actively involved in large-scale scientific activities, primarily in the field of genealogy and heraldry, carried out collection work, engaged in popularization of museum collections and expositions. Do 1911 In 2008, he also received the position of manager of affairs of the Chernihiv Scientific Archive Commission, he was involved in the activities of the museum. With the beginning of the Ukrainian revolution, Vadym Lvovych became the commissioner for the protection of monuments of art and antiquities in the Chernihiv province, senior military censor, member of Chernihiv "Prosvita" (1917 р.), later - assistant to the provincial commissar Ilya Shrag for civil affairs (1918 р.). He created and was a member of the board of the Committee for the Protection of Ancient Monuments and Art in Chernihiv Oblast. Worried about the protection of Chernihiv museums. He was one of the founders of the new newspaper "Chernygovsky region".
The closest friend in the life and scientific work of Vadym Modzalevsky was the famous Ukrainian artist Heorhiy Narbut. Subsequently, Vadym Lvovych moved to Kyiv, where he lived in the house of G. Narbut, which was near the Cathedral of St. Sophia. By the will of fate, both died in 1920 year and were buried together.
Concerned about the fate of his collection, the tireless researcher made a will during his lifetime, according to which antiquities were to be sent to the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities V.
