English clock of the 18th century. «Spencer Perkins»

In the collection of the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after VV. Tarnovsky, a silver English pocket watch in a silver case is kept (inv. No. I-3200) made by the eminent craftsmen Spencer and Perkins in London (company "Spencer Perkins").

The clock of this company was more, than just a timekeeping device, it is a quality brand known outside Great Britain. The products of Spencer and Perkins were highly valued for the excellence of their mechanisms. Respected watchmakers were specialized exporters. First of all, they focused their production on the Portuguese market. This was facilitated by close ties between England and Portugal, two great seafaring powers, old military allies and trade partners.

Spencer and Perkins worked with 1765 by 1794 рр.[1] in London at 44 Snow Hill. The time of creation of the clock from the museum collection can be determined at the end of the 18th century. Its dial has the usual hour and minute hands (hours are marked with Roman numerals, Arabic minutes) and an arrow, which indicates the day of the month. On top, a long neck with a ring for a chain. Started with a key. Diameter 6 see. Weight 133 g.
