How Shevchenko was banned

22 May we remember the reburial of Taras Shevchenko on Chernechaya Gora. An interesting document is kept in the Museum's collection. This is an imperial decree from the Poltava Spiritual Consistory dated 5.02.1914 Dr.. on the banning of solemn memorial services and gatherings on the occasion of Shevchenko's anniversary in religious educational institutions. The letter of the document turns on itself - Secret. Urgently. The decree was caused by such events. The Podolsk Theological Seminary applied for permission to honor the 100-year anniversary of the poet with a memorial service in the seminary church and reading of works by students in the evening. This move provoked an angry reaction from the Synod, which by his decree from 31.01.1914 Dr.. categorically forbade the celebration. Why? Bomovlyav “in the literary activity of the Little Russian poet Shevchenko, a negative anti-church and anti-state direction is clearly detected”. Urgency and secrecy were explained by the realities of life and the lack of time, because the anniversary fell on 25 February!

And finally. The document entered the collection of the Museum from the Prylutsk Local History Museum. There is an interesting note on the back: "12. XII. 1930 Dr.. Zinchenko, a teacher at the Prylutsky Technical School of Industrialization and the village of. Found among old technical school books".
