7 September 2022 року у Чернігівському історичному музеї ім. VV. Tarnowski hosted a museum meeting “Chernihiv first edition”, which was dedicated to the first printed book on the Left Bank and in the Chernihiv Region - the work of the head of the Chernihiv Greek Catholic Archimandria, Kyril Tranqulion-Stavrovetskyi, "The Pearl of Great Price". The book was printed in Chernihiv 7 September 1646 Dr..

Kyrylo Tranquillion-Stavrovetskyi (? — 1646) письменник, богослов, educational worker. He is called one of the most talented literary figures and thinkers of the first century. XVII ст. The preacher of the word of God is the official status he received in 1591 Dr.. from Metropolitan Mykhailo Rogoza. According to one of the versions, he was born in the late 60s - early 70s of the 16th century., можливо, in Stavrovo near Lutsk (or, can, lived there for a long time). The Ukrainian origin of Kyril Stavrovetsky is evidenced by the popular Ukrainian current of the language of his works and the repeated identification of his person with the "Rusyn" i.e. the Ukrainian people.

Wrote under the pseudonym "Tranquillion" - translated from Latin: "calm, submissive". Studied at Lviv Fraternal School or Ostroh Academy. Then he was a teacher there (1589—1592). Do 1618 Dr.. became abbot of the Univ monastery, and 1619 Dr.. - St. George's Monastery in Lyubar. There is a version, who was a member of the Ostroh cultural and educational circle. Do 1621-1625 рр. was a preacher in Zamosta (now m. Zamostia of the Lublin Voivodeship, Польща).

His books were met by the Orthodox without kindness, and "Teacher's Gospel" is prohibited at the Kyiv Cathedral 1621 Dr.. This became the reason for the change of religion. На початку 1626 Dr.. accepted the union, and 25 March 1626 Dr.. was appointed Union Archimandrite of Chernihiv Yelets Holy Dormition Monastery.

Had a significant typographic work:

  • in January 1615 Dr.. an edition of the Psalter was published in the printing house of the Lviv Brotherhood, prepared by him and with his dedication to Princess Anna Khodkevichivna Koretsky;
  • “Mirror of theology” (Почаїв, 1618 р.; republished in Univ 1679 Dr.. and 1692 р.), this is the first attempt in Ukraine to independently explain Christian dogmatics;
  • “Evangelie uchitelnoe or preaching” (Rakhmanov, 1619 р.; republished in Univ 1696 Dr.. and 1697 р.). Translated into modern Ukrainian, issued in Lviv 2014 Dr.. (species. "Swichado");
  • “Pearl of great value” (Chernihiv, 1646, republished in Mogilev 1699), was used as a guide to poetics. The book was written in literary Ukrainian language of the 17th century. with many elements of folk poetry.

In the preface to the reader, he emphasizes three points that are mandatory for a person: God-knowing, Self-aware and aware of their purpose as the crown of creation.

It would be more accurate to call Kyril Tranqulion-Stavrovetsky a traveling publisher. In all three books it is emphasized, that they are issued “cost and overhead” the author himself. How Stavrovetsky's publications were valued, numerous lists of the XVII-XVIII centuries testify. The famous researcher Serhiy Maslov counts 51 full or partial list “Mirrors”, as in the original language, as well as in translations into Church Slavonic; lists of chapters of the Gospel of the Teacher are also known, complete or partial lists “Pearl of many”.

Chernihiv Historical Museum named after. VV. Tarnovsky can proudly say, which has in its collection, albeit an incomplete copy of this book, without exaggeration, significant for Chernigov.
