Relics of Semyon Paliy

Semyon Paliy is from Fastiv, later Bila Tserkva colonel, leader of the Cossack uprising in the Right Bank of Ukraine in 1702-1704. The future colonel was born in Borzna, Chernihiv region 1642 Dr.. He came from a Cossack family. He served as a sergeant in the Nizhyn Regiment. He was a Cossack in the Sich for several years. Do 1681 р., gathering a detachment of several thousand Cossacks, moved to the war-ravaged Southern Kyiv region, occupying Fastiv, rebuilt the castle. Under the leadership of Pali, the Cossacks successfully repulsed the attacks of the Turks and Tatars. He took part in the Vienna campaign of Polish King Jan III Sobieski, with his permission formed the Fastiv Cossack Regiment (1684–1702). After the liquidation of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1699 Dr.. right-bank Cossacks, Semyon Paliy led the anti-Polish uprising. "Paliivshchyna" covered Kyiv region, Podillya, Volyn. 1702 Dr.. the rebels took the White Church, Paliy became known as the Bila Tserkva colonel (1702–1704). The Moscow government demanded that Pali liberate all captured cities in favor of the Polish king (Muscovy was linked to Poland by the Eternal Peace). The colonel tried to find support in the Polish anti-government confederation. This gave rise to I. Mazepa to arrest Palia, and 1705 Dr.. Peter I he was exiled to Tobolsk. At the request of Kyiv Colonel Anton Tansky 1708 Dr.. returned from exile in Kyiv region, where he again headed the Bila Tserkva Regiment (1708–1710). He took part in the Battle of Poltava on the side of Russia. 7 January 1710 Dr.. he was tonsured a monk of the Mezhyhirsk Savior-Transfiguration Monastery, where he died between 23 January – May 13 1710 Dr.. and was buried.

At the end of the XIX century. Vasyl Tarnovsky bought from the descendants of Semyon Paliy - Tansky (his daughter Maria was the wife of Kyiv Colonel Anton Tansky) memory of the famous colonel - pernach (attribute of the colonel's power) and two identical glasses, which were included in the collection of the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities VV. Tarnovsky, and later to the Chernihiv State Museum. Now in the museum's exposition you can see two rarities (one glass 1953 Dr.. was transferred to the National Museum of Ukraine).

Pernach consists of a silver head, formed by nine shaped plates - feathers, soldered to a rod and a wooden handle, wrapped in a silver plate, decorated with black floral ornament of carnations, tulips on a background of small flowers. This decor is typical of Russian metal. Authentically, Pernach was "awarded" to Palia by the tsarist government after returning from exile.

Next to the gingerbread in the exhibition is a small glass for strong drinks, made of a fairly thick silver plate, decagonal, with handle, smooth gilded faces alternate with non-gilded faces, on which the twisted acanthus shoot with a flower is skillfully engraved. The shape and style of the glass is close to the works of European masters.

The museum collection contains a letter from Semyon Paliy to the Bila Tserkva voivode from 29 October 1696 р., на якому, in addition to the signature there is a seal with the image of a bow with an arrow pointed upwards, over which - crossed swords pointed downwards, crowned with a cross, and on both sides - the letters "S P P E K M… Z" (Semyon Paliy Colonel of His Royal Grace [Troops] Zaporozhye).
