Liquidator's Day

13 December 2022 year in the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after V.V. "Relay of Generations" round table was held on the occasion of the Day of Liquidators of the Consequences of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident in Tarnovsky.

The round table was organized on the initiative of the NGO "Soyuz Chernobyl of Ukraine". Veteran liquidators were present at the event, representatives of the modern Armed Forces of Ukraine, Deputy Chairman of the Chernihiv Regional Council Dmytro Blaush. Representatives of the government and local self-government bodies awarded honorary degrees to the present "Chernobyl residents" and expressed gratitude for their heroism in the fight against the radiation threat. Svitlana Zemlyanska, a senior researcher at the museum, reminded those present about the dramatic events, related to the disaster, about the participation of servicemen of various branches of the military in liquidation of the consequences of the accident. Her report was supplemented by Anatoliy Ligun, head of the Union of Chernobyl of Ukraine.

Museum workers, починаючи з 1986 year, collected exhibits (фото, documents), which make it possible to recreate the hard work of all those, who participated in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident, which had the scale of a planetary catastrophe. Later, the museum became a place, where not only museum objects were stored, and a platform for communication, where meetings of residents of Chernobyl and youth took place, schoolchildren of the city.

The speech of the former liquidator was interesting, currently director of the Chornobyl Cultural and Information Center Volodymyr Alekseenko. He supplemented the story about the current state of the exclusion zone and the presence of Russian troops there in February-March 2022 year. Especially, about the threat and danger of criminal seizure of Ukraine's nuclear power plants by the enemy.
