Exhibition “Under the Wormwood Star”

Now the museum is in quarantine. But the work continues. 26 April 2021 year will mark a memorable date - the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident.

Prior to this event in the Military History Museum - a branch of the Chernihiv Regional Historical Museum. VV. Tarnovsky 23 April prepared and opened the exhibition "Under the Wormwood Star…". At the exhibition of museum exhibits (фото, documents, речі), witnessing the intense struggle of people with the nuclear threat and danger, illustrated pages of the recent past. The materials tell about the heroic and sacrificial work of thousands of servicemen, firefighters, employees of ChVVAUL, police units, which were formed in Chernihiv and the region. At the meeting, on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition, one of the participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident was invited, Commander of the Fire Battalion - Dobrytsia Victor Pavlovich. He spoke about the hard work of firefighters in spring and summer 1986 year.


Due to the painstaking work of the liquidators in December 1986 Shelter was built over the destroyed 4th power unit in. But over time, the structure was destroyed, therefore, there is a need for a new secure security facility. Do 2019 year a new object - confinement.

Today, life around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant continues: people continue to work, storage facilities are being built and work is underway to store nuclear fuel waste. The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone attracts tourists, especially foreigners. Excursions are organized by the Association of Chernobyl Tour Operators.

In April 2016 The Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve was founded in. The purpose of its activity is to preserve and restore the unique natural complexes of Polissya.
