The building of the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities

4 May 2023 , in Chernihiv Historical Museum named after VV. Another Museum meeting "Pages of Museum History" took place in Tarnovsky. One of her main topics was the fate of the house, where in 1902 The Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities was opened in, the basis of which was the collection of Vasyl Vasyliovych Tarnovsky, donated to Chernihiv.

Now a house (now Shevchenko street no 54) actually destroyed as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war. This building has always attracted attention with its neo architecture, which is unusual for our city- or pseudo-Gothic, which appeared here at the beginning of the 20th century, although the building itself is dated 1868 year. This is stated in the project of the architect Dmytro Savytskyi, the drawing of which is kept in the State Archive of the Chernihiv Region. One time, it was planned to place craft classes of the children's shelter there.

About the activity of an architect in Chernihiv, which lasted over 30 years, his biography, that has white spots was also discussed during the meeting.

A separate issue was the coverage of the creation of the exposition based on the study of the collections, what did they join: the Grinchenko couple, Zemstvo official Yakiv Artyukh and the first director of the Museum Andrii Shelukhin. Same A. A separate section of a small exhibition with original photographs and an almanac "oak casting" with a gift inscription of the famous writer Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi was dedicated to Shelukhin. Andriy Pavlovich's grandson, Andriy Dmytrovych Shelukhin, handed over these memories to the museum.

Materials of the second director, Vadym Modzalevsky, were presented at the exhibition. His activity (1911-1912 years) distinguished herself in the scientific field with many publications of historical documents on the history of Chernihiv Oblast.

One of the following topics of the upcoming museum meeting will be dedicated to Ivan Hryhorovych Rashevsky, who headed the museum in 1912-1921 years and left a bright mark in the cultural and social and political life of Chernihiv.
