In life and death are forever with us

29 September 2021 in the premises of the Military History Museum - a branch of the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after VV. Tarnowski opens the exhibition "In life and death, they are forever with us… The decay did not take", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the tragedy in Babiny Yar.

The name of the exhibition is lines from "Iskor", a Jewish memorial prayer in memory of six million Jews, who died during the Holocaust. The second line - "It didn't work with Tlinom" - from Mykola Bazhan's poem "Yar".

During the occupation of Kyiv in 1941–1943, Babyn Yar became the site of mass shootings of civilians and Soviet prisoners of war by the Nazi occupiers.; Jews and Roma - by ethnicity, as well as party and Soviet activists, underground, members of the OUN, hostages, "Saboteur", curfew violators…

The central event in the history of Babyn Yar was the mass actions on September 29-30 1941 Dr., aimed at the extermination of the Jewish population. Kyiv.

Mass shootings in Babyn Yar and the adjacent Syretsky concentration camp were carried out later, until the liberation of Kyiv from occupation. In 1941–1943. shot in Babyn Yar 621 OUN member, among them is the famous Ukrainian poetess Olena Teliga together with her husband.

The photo-documentary exhibition will feature materials about the tragedy of Babyn Yar, provided to the museum by various government agencies, public organizations and individuals.

A separate section of the exhibition - "Babiny Yara" of Chernihiv Oblast". For the first time, materials about the victims of Babi Yar - natives of Chernihiv Oblast - are presented, stored at the Israeli National Disaster Memorial (The Holocaust) Yad Vashem.
