Museum of Manly Life and Arts

28 July 2023 year in the Chernihiv Historical Museum. VV. Тарновського відбулася Музейна зустріч із серії «Сторінки історії музею». It was dedicated Museum of Landlord Life and Arts, which existed in 1919–1925.

It was about the history of the creation of the museum, formation of his collection and exposition, which was opened 1 July 1919 Dr.. Chernihiv, on the Trimming, in the nationalized building of Myloradovych (the house burned down during World War II, now on this estate, за сучасною адресою вул. Молодчого, 18, the forestry office is located). The new Chernihiv Museum was named the III Soviet Museum (І-й – Музей українських старожитностей В.В. Tarnovsky, II - United Historical Museum).

In the House, built in 1790 year, with a total area of more than 400 sq. метрів, expensive furniture made of red and walnut wood and Karelian birch was collected, carpets, picture, гравюри, wazi, porcelain dishes, скло, weapons, tapestries, items, embroidered with beads, wall and table clocks, statuettes, all kinds of trinkets and other antique luxuries. There were especially many paintings and portraits in this museum.

Famous art historian Fyodor Ernst, who visited 1923 year Museum, наголосив, that Chernihiv was the first in Ukraine to open a museum of a similar profile - neither was Kyiv, nor did Kharkiv have a special museum of everyday life.

Not only the gathering of estate owners was represented in the museum. His exhibits became historical and cultural values, confiscated from landowners' estates and wealthy residents of Chernihiv, removed from institutions and organizations, bought from antique dealers or owners of things. By the way, the Myloradovych collection was not legally confiscated, because its last owner signed a statement donating her treasures to the people. Olena Oliv did the same thing there, the owner of Kachanivka.

Another source of formation of the exposition of the Museum of Landlord Life and Arts was the work started in 1922 Dr.. the process of reorganization of museum affairs and redistribution of collections. So, embroidery with beads, porcelain, faience, interior items, etc., came to the III Soviet Museum from the V.V. Tarnovsky Museum, of the United Historical Museum and from the collection of the diocesan ancient repository. Today, this process can be tracked using inventory tags or markings, which are sometimes preserved on objects.

До 1925 The Museum remained in the house of Miloradovych, although from the end 1923 already as a department of the Chernihiv State Museum. In 1925 together with other departments moved to the building of the former land bank (now - Chernihiv OUN Library named after Sofia and Oleksandr Rusovyh). In 1926 the men's household department was opened, in 1929 - the art department. On 1933 In 2008, the expositions of the Chernihiv Historical Museum were already built according to another Marxist-Leninist paradigm.

During the Second World War, not only the house of Myloradovych perished, and a collection of furniture, porcelain, earthenware, glass, painting and sculpture, which were not evacuated.

As an echo of history and a kind of reflection on the past of the museum in the years 1979–2022 in the exposition of the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after. VV. Тарновського був представлений інтер’єр поміщицької вітальні як антагоніст селянської хати.

During the museum meeting, original objects could be seen at a small exhibition, which was exhibited at one time in the Museum of Manor Life and Arts: snuff boxes, smoking pipes made of wood and bone, hookah, signet rings, cufflinks, office bells, Miss Boston, boxes for storing "fly". Among the exhibits, which are already over 90 років не бачили відвідувачів, were the chamberlain's key - the sign of an official of the era of Empress Elizaveta Petrovna, кабінетні сувеніри – моделі гармати і мортирки. На екрані демонструвалося панно з китайською вишивкою гладдю, inherited by the Myloradovychs from Hetman Pavlo Polubotko, бісерні вишивки на гаманцях, clothes, bangs, etc.

A separate topic of the meeting was the conversation about the first head of the Museum of Landlord Life (1919–1922) Elena Illivna Chudnovska, her successor - Georgy Nikiforovich Vakulovskyi and Grigoriy Oleksandrovich Miloradovych - a well-known historian, краєзнавця, genealogist, the first chairman of the Chernihiv Provincial Scientific Archive Commission, a person, which made a lot of efforts for the existence of the Historical Museum of the Archive Commission and the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities in Chernihiv V.V..
