From the history of Chernihiv photography

The history of photography began in 1826 year, when the first photograph in the world was taken by the Frenchman Joseph Niepce. The official date of the invention of the photo was 1839 рік, when, at a meeting of the Paris Academy of Sciences, the famous French physicist Dominique Arago reported the general principles of the method invented by Louis Daguerre for obtaining a daguerreotype - a stable image on a metal plate in a camera obscura.

Immediately after the official publication of the daguerreotype method, photography became widespread in Europe. Ukraine was no exception and was also involved in the global process of development of photography.

The history of the Chernihiv photo case is not sufficiently studied and awaits its researchers.

The exhibition presents photographs of the first Chernihiv photo masters. Among the famous, it is worth mentioning Xavier Schlegel. Already 1858 the year theorist of the Photo Support Alexander Pokorsky-Zhoravko described his photo laboratory. Over time, K. Schlegel moved away from the photo case and, being a pharmacist by profession, in 1875 The year became the managerial pharmacy of the Chernihiv Provincial Zemsky Hospital.

A similar sample of artillery is stored in the collection of the Dnepropetrovsk Historical Museum. D.I. Yavornytsky, що у 1865 five photo studios worked in Chernihiv. The names of the owners are unknown. To the beginning 1871 Only three photo studios operated in Chernihiv: Xavier Schlegel, Joseph Hoffman and Leopold Grossman. The location of the last two found now failed.

1896 In 2008, there were two photo studios in Chernihiv: Raphael Chernetsky on Borisoglebskaya Street and Joseph Marra on Gonchya Street. But already in 1900 the year in the city was recorded three photo studios: P. Charnetsky on the corner of Borysoglibska and Mykolaivska streets in his own house, AND. Marra on Honcha Street in Salitan's house, Н. Minchenko on Bazarnaya Square in Berman's house. 1908 Solomon Utevskyi's photo studio appeared in Chernihiv.

Do 1912 year the number of a photo studio increased to five : Л. Chernetskaya on Borisoglibska Street in your own house, In. Goldfin on highway Street in Kagan's house, M. Yavorovsky in the Diocesan Brotherhood's house. A. Gitin had two photo workshops - on a highway in the house of Prystai and on the Epiphany Street under the name "Rembrandt".

Chernihiv photographers participated in international exhibitions, where their photos have been repeatedly marked by honorary awards. The photos of the amateur photographer Moisei Chambon deserve attention, teacher of the French language at the Chernihiv Real School. Протягом 1913-1918 years he took great photos from Chernihiv's history and everyday life of his family.

In the mid-90s of the 19th century. postcards have become widespread in Ukraine. They were also published by Chernihiv photo masters, particular, In. Goldfain. Postcards were also Chernihiv and. Idlis, M. Yakubovych and A. Aizen.

Still, the most popular and profitable business in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries was portrait shooting in the photo studio.

The exhibition was created on the basis of materials from the collection of the famous Chernihiv local historian Volodymyr Rudenko and the descendant of the photographer K. Schlegel - Alexei Matviychuk.

The charming mini-exhibition "Charnetsky's photo studio" and the fairy-tale mood were created by the actors of the Chernihiv Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after T.G. Shevchenko - Petro Veliky and Svitlana Boyko. The musical accompaniment of the event was performed by Ivan Savchenko, a pianist and concertmaster of Levko Revutsky Chernihiv Professional Music College. Iryna Dereichuk prepared a script for the mini-play in advance. The installation of the exhibition was carried out by the artist Oleg Rodin.

There are two photo locations at the exhibition. The exhibition will work until the summer 2023 year.
