Volunteers act first

2 December in the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after V.V. Tarnovsky, the exhibition "Volunteers are the first to act" opened. Тут. Everywhere" The opening is timed to Volunteer Day, a holiday, which was initiated by the UN General Assembly in 1985 year.

It is considered to be the beginning of the volunteer movement 1859 рік, when Swiss businessman and social activist Henry Dunant, impressed with the dire consequences of one of the bloodiest battles of the Austro-Italian-French war (at Solferino battlefield left lying around 9 thousands of maimed soldiers), actually initiated the creation of the International Red Cross organization, that the volunteer would provide first aid to the wounded. principles, he started in this organization, began to be used by active citizens in many countries. Basic principles of volunteering: voluntariness and benevolence; legality; humanity and dignity; common interests and equal rights of its participants; publicity; responsibility; privacy. Volunteer activity is voluntary, socially oriented, non-profit activity.

The word volunteer comes from French (volunteer), which is borrowed from Latin (free expression of will, desire). The term "volunteering" for this type of activity in the world began to be used in the 70s of the XX century.

The heyday of volunteering in Ukraine coincided with the Revolution of Dignity and the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war. In an extremely difficult time this movement is united society, thanks to the volunteers, the country 2014 Dr.. retained sovereignty, stopped Russian aggression and restored a combat-ready army with high morale.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, hundreds of thousands of caring citizens joined the "volunteer front".. They voluntarily took over certain functions of government and local self-government - social, humanitarian, protection of the state and territorial integrity. Volunteers work for Victory! Volunteer activity is voluntary, socially oriented, non-profit activity.

Chronologically, the exhibition covers the time from 24 February 2022 Dr.. to the present day. Geographically - mainly, volunteer organizations and volunteers of the regional center are represented.

Using the example of the volunteer movement of Chernigov, we demonstrate the main areas of activity of volunteers of the region and Ukraine with museum facilities. Assistance to the Armed Forces and TRO in the conditions of hostilities (cooking and delivery to the position, provision of military ammunition, fundraising and acquisition of technical means, repair of equipment, provision of medicines, hygiene products). Assistance to the civilian population in the conditions of the blockade of the city and the lack of vital necessities: arrangement of bomb shelters, food delivery, medicines, water, phone charging. Assistance to communal services, State Emergency Service, hospitals. Organization of delivery of humanitarian goods to the city. Evacuation of people. Helping animals: provision of fodder, keeping abandoned and homeless animals, treatment.

Unfortunately, was not without losses. 2 In March, Iryna Boyko was mortally wounded while performing a volunteer task. 30 in March, a convoy of 5 volunteer buses, that were carrying humanitarian cargo to Chernihiv, came under fire: four volunteers were injured, three - died. Anastasia Tagirova (19 years), Bohdan Stefanyshyn, Oleksiy Antonov (28 years) died on the way to the hospital.

After the de-occupation of the region, Chernihiv volunteers went to help the affected settlements with the most necessary (food products, medicines, building materials). We joined in helping the affected residents of the villages of Kiinka and Novoselivka, Bobrovytsia microdistrict (demolition of rubble and ruins, purchase of building materials, reconstruction of destroyed houses, finding funds for the purchase of modular houses). They continue to help vulnerable categories of the population, hospitals, military hospital, schools. Helping displaced people. Provide psychological support and rehabilitation of military and civilians. They are "fighting" on the cultural front: organize creative events in support of the Armed Forces. They work with children and youth: organize rest, psychological rehabilitation, conduct interactive patriotic events.

All volunteers continue to take care of the Armed Forces. And even children: organize charity fairs to collect funds for the Armed Forces, are singing, make amulets, etc.

In that, that Chernihiv became a hero city, - great merit of the volunteers!

It was difficult to work on the exhibition, but interesting. Colleagues helped with the search for information, друзі, friends of friends. We knew some of the volunteers before, with 2018 р., when the exhibition "Together to Victory" was created in the Military Historical Museum, at which the volunteer assistance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was covered. We would like to thank Nina Lemesh for her help, Tatyana Myrhorodskaya, Lyudmila Mazur, Maria Puchynets (correspondents of the newspaper "Chernihivshchyna"), Viktor Koshmal. Звичайно, many thanks to all the volunteers, for they, who responded and provided materials. We hope for further cooperation.

We understand, that not all volunteers and volunteer organizations of the city are represented at the exhibition: we did not find anyone's contacts, someone did not cooperate. But we will work in this direction, we will continue to collect materials from volunteers of Chernihiv Oblast.

They had a speech at the opening of the exhibition: museum director Sergei Laevsky, First Deputy Head of the Chernihiv Regional Council, Nina Lemesh.
