Basil Tarnovskiy. Memory

12 June 2024 in Chernihiv Historical Museum named after VV. The memory of the famous Ukrainian public and cultural figure Vasyl Vasyliovych Tarnovsky was honored (to the 125th anniversary of his death). Thanks to his collection, which he gave to Chernigov, in 1902 the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities was opened in the city, which later began to bear the name of the benefactor.

Until this date, a temporary exhibition was created. The senior researcher of the museum Svitlana Polovnikova in her speech focused on the last years of Vasyl Tarnovsky's life and burial at the Askold grave in Kyiv. This cemetery was destroyed by the barbarians 1934 year by resolution of the Soviet authorities, which led to the transfer of the monument in a damaged form to the Zoo cemetery.

Perpetuating the memory of V.V. Tarnovsky in archives, Deputy director for development Serhiy Laevsky highlighted the film and photo documents. He introduced the audience to the history of the return of the museum named after Vasyl Tarnovsky, and renaming one of the city streets in his honor. During the years of independent Ukraine, the first laureates of the annual regional award "Benefactor of the Year named after the Patrons of Tarnovsky" were welcomed in the exposition of the Museum.
