The poet lives in the hearts of his people

10 March 2021 , in Chernihiv Historical Museum named VV. Tarnovsky the exhibition opened "The poet lives in the hearts of his people", присвячена 160-й річниці від дня смерті Тараса Шевченка та перепохованню його в Україні.

Мовою оригінальних експонатів розповідається про вагомий внесок у вшанування пам’яті Великого Кобзаря відомими українськими письменниками Пантелеймоном Кулішем, Boris Grinchenko, Mykhailo Kotsyubynsky, життя яких було пов’язане з Черніговом в кінці ХIХ – на початку ХХ століття. The scientific works of the first biographers of the poet Mykhailo Chaly and Oleksandr Konysky are included, natives of Chernihiv region.

The exhibition presents the original letter of Panteleimon Kulish to the Ukrainian writer and ethnographer Yakov Kukharenko, в якому описано церемонію поховання Т.Шевченка на Смоленському кладовищі Петербурга в лютому 1861 year. Експонуються альбом “Качанівка” з автографами Т. Шевченка та його друга поета Віктора Забіли. The original photo shows Volodymyr Naumenko, a writer, педагога, уродженця м. Новгорода-Сіверського. On 1902 Volodymyr Pavlovych had the right to publish Shevchenko's works.

An important role in the arrangement of Shevchenko's grave was played by the collector of Ukrainian antiquities and public figure Vasyl Tarnovsky Jr.. 1884 року коштом мецената був відлитий шестиметровий чавунний пам’ятник –хрест вагою 3.8 tons. The sketch of the bas-relief with the image of Kobzar was made for him by Vasyl Tarnovsky himself. He wished, that such words of the poet were cast on the monument:

“Love your Ukraine,

Любіть її… Во время люте,

In the rest of the difficult moment

Pray to the Lord for her. ”.

На. pity, the plate with these lines had to be removed at the request of the authorities. VV Tarnovsky collected the largest Shevchenko in Ukraine, which numbered more 1000 items, and became the basis of the Taras Shevchenko National Museum.
