Petro Ivanovych Smolichev is an archaeologist and museum worker

28 January at the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after VV. Tarnovsky opened the exhibition "Peter Ivanovich Smolichev - archaeologist and museologist", dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of the famous scientist.

Peter Ivanovich was born 12 (24) January 1891 year in the family of a priest in the village. Princes of Hlukhiv district of Chernihiv province (now - Yampil district of Sumy region). Continuing the family tradition, he entered the Chernihiv Theological Seminary, later he graduated from the St. Petersburg Theological Academy and the Archaeological Institute. Do 1908 he took part in the XIV Archaeological Congress in Chernihiv.

On 1919 taught at the Chernihiv Institute of Public Education. Навесні 1923 Dr.. Peter Ivanovich took the position of head of the 2nd Soviet Museum (former museum of the Chernihiv Provincial Scientific Archival Commission). When in the fall of the same year, the Chernihiv State Museum was created by merging five museums, headed its archaeological department.

During 1925–1927, an expedition of the Chernihiv State Museum led by Peter Smolichev conducted archaeological research on a complex of ancient Russian monuments. (burial mound and mound) near the village. Shestovytsia, Chernihiv district. Surveys and "trial" excavations of the settlement in the Korovel tract were carried out, researched 42 embankments in different mound groups. Archaeological finds: household items, armament, horse equipment, прикраси, in general almost 500 items, now stored in the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after VV. Tarnovsky. The most interesting of them are in the permanent exhibition.

Smolichev devoted several articles to the antiquities of Shestovitsa. He also prepared a complete edition of the excavation materials, however, he did not have to complete this work.

1931 year Peter Ivanovich, due to adverse circumstances, formed in the Chernihiv State Museum, leaves the city, and later outside Ukraine.

In the 1940s, the researcher worked at the Institute of History, archeology and ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Tajik SSR. He died in Dushanbe 1944 year.

Presented at the exhibition 51 artifact of the X century from the excavations of Peter Smolichev in Shestovitsa.

Finds from four mounds with different types of burials are exhibited in four shop windows. Most of them are usually stored in the museum, in particular the spearhead, details of scramasax vaginas, part of the casing of the quiver, tools, overlays on a belt, fragments of trimmings.

The reconstruction of a handbag with original overlays of millennia ago attracts attention, sword with bronze tops and crosses.

The exhibition is complemented by archival materials of the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and stands from the exhibition "Ordered not to know: Ukrainian archaeologists in the grip of totalitarianism ", created by the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Institute of History of Ukraine, Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The exhibition will run until early April.
