To the 210th anniversary of the birth of Vasyl Tarnovsky Sr.

26 June 2020 year in the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after VV. Tarnowski opened the exhibition "… There are no ranks for him, no increases, no ambition ” (to the 210th anniversary of the birth of Vasyl Tarnovsky Sr. - a famous Ukrainian public figure).

Rudivka of Pryluky district of Poltava province in the family of landowner Vasyl Tarnovsky and Anna Fedosiyivna. Do 1826 graduated from the Nizhyn Gymnasium of Higher Sciences, where he studied with Nikolai Gogol. With the title of candidate of law in 1828 graduated from Moscow University. He worked as a teacher at the Zhytomyr gymnasium. After the death of his parents, Vasyl Tarnovsky had to take care of seven younger brothers and sisters.. Vasyl Vasyliovych worked in St. Petersburg as a member of the editorial board, which was preparing a project of peasant reform. Together with Hryhoriy Galagan, he provided funds for the maintenance of a Ukrainian printing house in St. Petersburg, repeatedly handed over material assistance to Taras Shevchenko.

Do 1861 year introduced the royal manifesto on the abolition of serfdom, resolved conflicts between peasants and landowners. Do 1865 Vasyl Tarnovsky was elected a member of the Chernihiv Provincial Zemstvo. During the meeting 3 December 1866 year he had a heart attack and the next day Vasily Tarnovsky died. He was buried in the crypt of St. George Hozevit Church in Kachanivka.

In Chernihiv Historical Museum named after VV. Tarnowski's scientific heritage is preserved, documents and correspondence of Vasyl Tarnovsky. The exhibition presents three letters from Nikolai Gogol to Vasily Tarnovsky.
